Do you want to take the leap from using yarn to making your own? This workshop will demystify the world of spinning, and teach beginners the fundamentals of how to spin yarn on a drop spindle. We’ll cover the mechanics of spinning, the myriad types of fibre, plying and finishing your yarns. Students will leave with an understanding of the basics of spinning, a skein of their own handspun yarn, and the confidence to continue their spinning journey!

Materials required

Participants are welcome to bring their own drop spindles if they wish, or they can borrow one for the session.

The tutor will provide handouts with notes and a selection of wool top and rolags to spin.

About Isabella Rossi

Isabella Rossi is the owner of Rossi Conservation, a textile conservation studio based in East Lothian. She is also the President of the Edinburgh Guild of Weavers, Spinners, and Dyers, and is constantly crafting. She aims to help textile artists understand and care for the materials they work with.
